TRANSCENDENCE

Applying the conceptual framework of transformative leadership is not easy. We are challenged to engage in a constant investigation of truth, to develop and practice self-discipline, to participate in an ongoing learning process, to look for and nurture hidden talents and undeveloped qualities in others, to distinguish ourselves by an attitude of service, to serve the common good, and to strive for the transformation of society. That is a tall order! Yet, anything less would be unworthy of being called transformative leadership.

The inspiration to persevere resolutely in this challenging path comes from transcendence. When we face obstacles in our path, transcendence gives us strength to continue. We experience transcendence when we detach ourselves from the limitations of current reality and connect with a higher power, or with those eternal values and principles to which we are committed. This inclination to reach toward a higher reality is an inherent aspect of human nature.
